The "Ann Arbor Quad" Map
The beautiful map of the "Ann Arbor Quad" was made in 1907 by a team of remarkable geographers, who, without benefit of satellite imagery, or efficient measuring instruments, and certainly without the easy mobility of cars and smooth roads, created a highly detailed and valuable map of the moraines and surface geology of a small part of Michigan. I picture them on horseback, with piles of heavy gear and sketch pads, and swatting mosquitoes, meticulously recording our beautiful glacial landscape in detail, so well and beautifully on their finished map, that is has been treasured forever by map-lovers like us.
I am working at sharpening this Russell and Leverett map, and making a video showing its details.
Meanwhile, watch my video about Saline, on my YouTube channel, @BrendaEllenBentley, to see this map featured extensively. I hope to soon have my brightened version available for sale.
